Messages from the Fire

ree

Last Sunday, we entered the new lunar cycle on the Mayan calendar, that will take us on a journey for the next nine months.

It was such a beautiful day of ceremony and celebration. In the morning, I led a traditional fire ceremony on the land with a group, and then in the evening, we gathered online with other lovely people from around the world, welcoming this powerful new cycle together.

At the fire ceremony, the Mayan ancestors spoke. As the flames danced, sending copal smoke up into the heart of the sky, their voices carried on the wind.

The ancestors invited us to pause and look back at the cycle that ended. To reflect on whether we have been walking in alignment with the truth of our hearts. They gave me an image of a pebble in a shoe. We know that feeling, right? That little thing that's bothering us, but we just... keep going. We tell ourselves it's fine, we'll deal with it later, it's not that bad. So we rush forward even though we know, deep down, it's not good for us.

The invitation was to stop and pay attention. Adjust our pace, adjust our course if necessary, fine-tune our inner dialogue to what we're truly feeling, to what we need. Be patient with ourselves. Read between the lines and nurture ourselves beyond the surface level, beyond the bare minimum. Rise above survival mode if that's where we've been dwelling.

I've been sitting with this message and I could see where I've been tolerating discomfort instead of making changes to honour what I really need. It was a wake up call to stop and remove the pebble in my shoe. The timing couldn’t be more ripe for transformation and I wasn't surprised that the Spirit of the Wind was very present at the ceremony, reminding us that the chaos we're seeing around us is clearing the way for long-awaited changes, in our personal lives and in the world.

We’re being called to be present and fully awake, to release the shackles of the past, envision new possibilities, and rise together with clarity, wisdom, and light hearts. Trust the process. Trust the winds. Trust our own strength to make a positive contribution.

Another message from the ancestors resonated deep into my core: the power of community. In times of great divide, and let’s be real, we’re living through some intense divisions right now, the ancestors brought us back to something fundamental. Our connection to Earth, our intrinsic link to each other, runs far deeper than any human constraint, ideology, or political discourse could ever touch. We are inherently designed to thrive in unity.

This isn't just spiritual talk, it's how life works. Every living being on this planet operates on principles of cooperation and mutually beneficial relationships. It's in our genetic makeup. It's how forests communicate underground, how ecosystems balance themselves, how nature has always functioned. Unity consciousness is stronger than any divide-and-conquer scheme. When we remember this, we tap into something so powerful, so ancient, that no force can truly separate us.

The ancestors remind us of what we already know in our bones: we belong to each other. We are walking each other home, hand by hand, heartbeat by heartbeat.

So if the world seems overwhelming right now, hold on to the principles of Mother Earth. Remember that unity consciousness is our nature. Let's stick together, work through our differences, recognise the sacred in each other, protect life, and be kind to one another. Nature teaches that, in complicated times, simple principles apply. Simple truths directly from the heart of the earth, to ignite compassion in the human heart.

May we carry this truth in our hearts, letting it guide each step.
